Pearl jam:
An influence for a generation
Pearl Jam in 2012
When looking at the start of the grunge age Pearl Jam can not be left out. Founded in 1990 in Seattle, Washington at the downfall of Mother Love Bone, members Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Arment and Mike McCready formed together to bring forth a wonder of a band, Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam came from the ending of Green River, which was a band that Arment and Gossard were originally members of and the eventual join in of Vedder and McCready led to help start this grunge band into action. Their first album "Ten" was released on August 21st, 1991. The band was said to have catalyzed the grunge explosion. Writing songs that topped the charts such as "Alive", "Jeremy" and "Even Flow". These songs were the anthem for the teenager struggling with the world around them. Their hit song "Jeremy" won four award at the 1993 MTV Video Music awards. While their music video won awards the band didn't necessarily like push they were getting to do more music videos for the rest of their songs. Pearl Jam has been said to be a rebellious group when it come to conforming to whatever it is that the main media wants them to do. This is another reason teenagers look to the band for inspirations. With transcendentalism-like thoughts it was very easy for the teenager to like Pearl Jam. With a quotes from Eddie Vedder like "They(the parents of the kids) started to think about themselves more than their kids, I understand that, caught up in some kind of social progression, but their kids were left out " on the effect their hit song "Jeremy" had on the media. You can tell that there is a deeper level to this man and this band, that they care about the kids of the generation and that they didn't want the wrong message to be portrayed through the song. Pearl Jam had quite the impact on the grunge scene and the cultivation of grunge rock today.
